Olympus mons

The caldera at the peak of the volcano was formed after volcanism ceased and the roof of the emptied magma chamber collapsed. During the collapse the surface became extended and formed fractures. Later additional caldera collapses were formed due to subsequent lava production. These overlapped the original circular caldera, giving the edge a less symmetrical appearance.

Cold Mars Temps

Mars is COLD! Even in mid summer temperatures rarely exceed 65 degrees. Just a few inches above the surface the temp drops sharply. At night temp will fall to -100 degrees. In mid winter at the poles the temp will reach -200 degrees.

Mars Weather

It cannot rain on mars. Because of the Temperatures and pressures of the Martian atmosphere, water can only exist as vapor or as ice. In the winter, a kind of snow made of solid carbon dioxide sometimes falls near the Martian poles.

Mars

Until the fist flyby of Mars by Mariner 4 in 1965, it was speculated that there might be liquid water on the planet's surface. This was based on observations of periodic variations in light and dark patches, particularly in the polar latitudes, which looked like seas and continents, while dark striations were interpreted by some observers as irrigation channels for liquid water. These straight-line features were later proven not to exist and were instead explained as optical illusions. Still, of all the planets in our solar system other than Earth, Mars is the most likely to habor liquid water, and perhaps life.

Mars

Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. Mars is named after the roman god of war, Mars. Mars is home to Olympus Mons, the largest known mountain in the universe. Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. Phobos is the largest of the two moons and is also closest to mars. The moons got their names after the soldiers that fought next to the Roman god Mars.
